The following are the steps and some tips for creating a writing resume:

1. Choose an appropriate format

There are two main types of WR:

  • Reverse-chronological: It lists your writing experience in the reverse-chronological order. This is a suitable option for experienced writers as it highlights their accumulated achievements.

  • Functional combination-resume: It lists your writing skills before your experience, as it focuses more on your relevant skills. This is suitable for writers with less experience, as it highlights how their current skills and qualifications make them most suitable for the writing position.

Choose a clear and readable font, size and typeface. Leave enough space between lines and sections. It's best to keep your resume within one page and not more than two pages at most. Doing so can help your recruiters extract relevant information from your resume more quickly and it creates a professional image.

2. Tailor your resume to your target position

Create a resume that is specific to the unique requirements of each job opening. This can show your understanding of and passion for the position for which you're applying.
