My job at AIG was diversified though centred on consumer credit. The part on working to set up the AIG credit card centre had been most enjoyable. It's a pity that the 2008 US mortgage crisis had hard hit on AIG,

The company presents multiple opportunities for improving and learning new skills if you are willing to keep your ear to the ground and are up for the challenge. There are plenty of opportunities to make a difference for customers and internal clients by improving processes, developing new services and so on.

Unfortunately the company does fall a bit behind on benefits, HR management and on being truly global instead of US-centric. Innovation is not one of the strong points, but that's a challenge all over the insurance industry.

Overall, it's a great corporation to work for as it is the leader in the industry. However, because of its size, the divisions within AIG act almost as a separate entites.

No induction whatsoever, you have to find your way through the share drive on the computer. You are not even told that as a new hire, you won’t be paid on the normal pay day on the first month, but 7 days after. Not transparent with their job performance review; your direct boss may tell you why he/she rate you as he/she did, but those higher up, who give a final rating during a caliberation process, does not. Interesrtingly, you are then ask whether you accept or not and give comment. What can you say when you don’t know why those higher up rate you worse when your direct boss give you a “good”!
Pros
Good name, looks good on CV
Cons
Very disorganised
