Good place to work, but limited growth opportunities

Good people to work with. Management not as good as should be. Need to be careful on role and position, as strategy/automation/offshoring may impact the role.

Good culture, not a great salary

Good place to start. Salary is not great, but overall benefit is good. Good place to learn. People are cooperative. Generally managers are good. In Hong Kong, some managers are really workaholic who sucks life out of you. Work-life balance sucks.

Opposites Attract: Most teams work by the HSBC book. Other teams in bad shape due to misguided business/ethical practices and turf protection

Executive management walks the talk Lower management needs guidance and direction Bad orgnaisation and quality of some project/work teams Hardest- Some teams are prone to rampant internal politics, misguided business and ethical practices, and turf protection. Constant cover ups are encouraged and people are silenced, asked to look away, or are fired when they question bad practices. Working in these bad teams seems like you are not working for a high-class organisation like HSBC but more for a backyard set up. Most enjoyable- Central benefits, networking with veteran and established HSBC colleagues, seeing how HSBC standards work in better managed and monitored teams Veteran and established HSBC members must aim to uphold HSBC culture and standards

Pros

Good overall benefits, networking with veteran and established HSBC colleagues, and leadership at executive level

Cons

Bad organisation of project teams. Some teams are prone to rampant internal politics, misguided business practices, and turf protection

Good organisation

HSBC is a good organisation to work for, with many opportunities across the Bank and in multiple territories across the world. Recommended if you would like to work for a large, Global Bank.

Good place to learn

Good place to learn. You can move to different teams and expand your knowledge truly. Flat structure, you can discuss ideas with seniors easily.
