HONG KONG PRODUCTIVITY COUNCIL
HONG KONG PRODUCTIVITY COUNCIL Employee Review
Not for the technically ambitious ones, a review for the APAS department
Engineering Officer (Former Employee) - Kowloon Tong, Hong Kong - February 22, 2022
The company has limited core technology in the field, the management do no have the appropriate resources or industrial know-how to direct the technical development of projects. The situation has gotten worse as one of the major sub-division leads left the company, likely due to the politics and the macroenvironment in Hong Kong, leading to even more staff leaving. The compensation and physical office environment is great for an early career position. However progression is limited and people development for technical talents on pragmatic skills is non-existent. For Details, see Pros and Cons
Pros
Relatively good pay for an early career role, Commute is easy just next to the MTR station, Usually won't get overtime work as long as you keep your head low, Good benefits, Office environment is good, Interesting Festive and recreational activities are held regularly, Quiet useful gifts (food products) for traditional festivals
Cons
Workshop/Lab is disorganize, Poor Project Planning and Responsibility Allocation, Culture is bureaucratic “the less you do the less mistakes” mentality is prevalent, High turnover and thus limited core technicalities retained, Projects are created for following “technology trends” or to chase a specific government grant, Some specific senior management staff like to micro-manage, Management have their own agenda to prepare backup plans without discussing with the team, Most training are not systematic and usually provide shallow knowledge, Monthly (or more frequent) public visits messes up setup of equipment from R&D projects

Stressful, Not a good place to start the career
Engineering Officer (Former Employee) - Kowloon City District, Kowloon - May 17, 2022
The workplace culture is not good for graduate students with no previous work experience. The salary is not high and there is a lack of progression. A lot of KPIs while the works are not really helping the clients.
Pros
Medical Insurance
Cons
Stressful works which are not meaningful

Fair place for fresh graduate
Engineering Officer (Former Employee) - Hong Kong - September 28, 2021
It provides fair salary for engineering fresh graduate ($18k up at 2020). But the career path is very limited and salary raise is extremely low. Huge income target and no comission provided.
Pros
One of few R&D institutes in HK. Exposure to different industry
Cons
No career path. Heavy workload. Bad company culture.
