Manager (Former Employee) - Hong Kong - May 15, 2020
KPMG has a lot of structure and is a good place to start for aspiring consultants. There's always a variety as the client problems are unique based on their situation and you get to deal with key management concerns early on. Even as a junior consultant there's a lot of opportunities to be exposed to senior clients in the C suite. As i progressed to a manager, I had responsibilities similar to a business unit, where I had to win business from clients, identify the right talent internally within KPMG that I would need to deliver, manage the budget, and even coach junior staff in my project.
It's was tough and great learning experience.

Salary to begin with is a bit low. However exposure to different kind of deals is valuable. Analysts will get assigned to different managers through a pool system which allows you to work with different managers.
Joined KPMG in 2015 as an intern in the Audit department. Despite being a paid internship, the major of my time in the company were spent on trainings, which were really helpful and I've learnt a lot through this experience.
KPMG is a professional firm, I joined after graduation and learnt a lot by working with the professionals there. The partners and HR team holds high standard and that became part of my work ethics in the HR field - which I honestly believe it's one of the most important element in the Human Resources Profession.
KPMG is one of the big-4 firms. It has a lot of big engagement in both Hong Kong and China. You have a lot to learn, but the job is really demanding. Those who are appreciated by boss could have promotion easily and quickly, otherwise, you will be abandoned very quickly. The job is exhausting and working overnight is normal in peak season. The job is only suitable for young men and women who are just out of school who want to try to work in big-4 accounting firm. Some of them will be successful and most of them don't.

A nice workplace and professional personnel. Most hardest part of job was during the peak season. However, there are many departmental functions such as football match, lunch gathering. Besides working, everybody enjoy the work-life balance week which held every year.
