Entry Requirements:
Candidates should –
(a) have completed Secondary 4 or equivalent;
(b) be able to communicate in English or Chinese in written and spoken forms;
(c) be proficient in at least one of the following South Asian languages in written and spoken forms: Urdu, Hindi, Nepali, Punjabi, Indonesian, Tagalog and Thai;
(d) have basic computer and Internet knowledge; and
(e) have knowledge in word processing in English or Chinese.
Preference will be given to candidates who have good understanding of the culture and practices of at least one South Asian ethnicity.

Duties:
The main duties include –
(a) to assist in providing simple interpretation and translation service to ethnic minorities (“EMs”) such as introducing the public services provided by the Labour Department, facilitating their completion of forms etc.;
(b) to liaise with customers including but not limited to EMs for building up and maintaining customer relationship and collecting feedback;
(c) to provide general support for manning reception counters and receiving incoming calls;
(d) to provide support for preparing and conducting various activities and programmes, including but not limited to those for EMs;
(e) to provide general support services within the clinic, such as maintaining order among patients, including but not limited to EMs and assisting in data entry of patient information, organising medical records and keeping archives;
(f) to assist in discharging other general clerical duties including receiving and delivering documents, mail, and other items within and outside the office; and
(g) to undertake other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Terms of Appointment:
Successful candidate will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms for a contract period of 12 months. Further renewal of contract will be considered subject to the appointee’s performance and conduct and the service needs of the Labour Department.

Fringe Benefits
Appointees are eligible for 12 days’ paid annual leave. Other benefits such as rest days, statutory holidays (or substituted holidays), maternity/ paternity leave and sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted in line with the Employment Ordinance.

(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(b) Applications which are incomplete, late or submitted in person, by post, by fax or by e-mail will NOT be accepted.
(c) Candidates who are selected for interview will normally receive an invitation in about eight weeks from the closing date of application. This period may be longer in exceptional circumstances when a large number of applications are received or when there are other complications. Invitation to the recruitment interview will be issued via email. Please ensure that accurate email address is provided and that your email account can receive incoming emails properly. Those who are not invited for interview may assume that their applications are unsuccessful.
(d) Holders of academic qualifications awarded by local institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority are not required to submit copies of the relevant transcripts/diplomas/certificates or other qualification documents at this stage of application.
(e) Holders of academic qualifications obtained from institutions outside Hong Kong may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. They should submit copies of the relevant transcripts/diplomas/certificates or other qualification documents by email to recruitment@labour.gov.hk within one week after the closing date for application. The online application number should be quoted in the subject of the email and on every page of the copies of the relevant documents.
