About the role
As we continue to scale, we are looking for a sharp, detail-driven Compliance and Legal Officer to join our team—someone who understands the fast-paced, high-liability nature of the PR and events world.
Role Overview
This is not a traditional corporate legal desk job. You will be embedded in live project execution, ensuring every pitch, contract, venue agreement, talent release, and vendor deal complies with legal standards and company policy. You will work side-by-side with producers, account leads, and operations managers.
Key Responsibilities
Legal (60% – due to high volume of event-related contracts):
Draft, review, and negotiate:
Venue agreements (including cancellation, force majeure, liability clauses)
Talent/celebrity appearance releases
Vendor contracts (catering, AV, staging, security)
Sponsorship and brand partnership agreements
NDAs with clients and third-party agencies
Model/likeness release forms and photo/video usage rights
Manage insurance requirements (COIs, liability waivers, event cancellation policies)
Maintain a central contract repository for all events and campaigns
Advise on intellectual property usage (logos, music, trademarks in event branding)
Compliance (40%):
Ensure all events comply with:
Local venue and municipal permits / fire safety codes
Alcohol licensing and serving regulations (if applicable)
Data privacy (GDPR/CCPA) for guest lists, RSVPs, and lead capture
Health & safety protocols (especially for large gatherings)
Anti-bribery and gifting policies (when dealing with press/influencers)
Conduct pre-event legal audits and post-event compliance reviews
Train event coordinators and PR account teams on basic legal do’s and don’ts
Handle incident reporting (guest injury, property damage, legal threats on-site)
Qualifications
Essential:
Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business Law, or related field.
2+ years of legal/compliance experience, ideally with exposure to events, media, marketing, or hospitality.
Strong knowledge of contract law, liability waivers, and IP rights.
Ability to simplify legal language for non-legal teams.
Extremely organized under pressure.
Highly Preferred:
Experience in PR agency, event production, or entertainment law.
Familiarity with COI (certificate of insurance) requirements for venues.
Knowledge of local municipal event permitting processes.
