THE CHINESE MEDICINE HOSPITAL OF HONG KONG

The Chinese Medicine Hospital of Hong Kong (CMHHK) is a flagship Chinese medicine(CM) institution leading the development of CM including Chinese medicines (CMs) in Hong Kong. The CMHHK adopts a public-private partnership model. The HKSAR Government has financed the construction and selected the Hong Kong Baptist University as the contractor to incorporate the HKBU Chinese Medicine Hospital Company Limited as the operator to manage, operate and maintain the CMHHK.

The CMHHK is targeted to commence hospital services by phases at the end of 2025. The CMHHK aims to offer comprehensive CM care, ranging from primary, secondary to tertiary services, and promote advanced and specialised CM services. The CMHHK will pioneer integrated Chinese-western medicine (ICWM) services to cater to different patient needs. Inpatient, day-patient, and outpatient treatments and also community services will be offered by the CMHHK. Both Government-subsidised services and add-on market-oriented services will be provided to ensure accessibility and to meet the diverse healthcare needs of the community.

With a view to prioritising education, training, innovation and research, including collaboration with local and overseas universities to advance evidence-based clinical research and develop CM theories and clinical applications, the CMHHK is now looking for the following talent to join our team.

The CMHHK planning comes to commission stage II (Jan 2024- Dec 2025). During this stage, the Chinese Medicine(CM) Division in CMHHK starts to design the details of protocols for its clinical service, training, research and public promotion. The CM Division requires the following positions in commission stage II to support the evidence-based protocol drafting in the area of CM, ICWM services, training and research; to support the IT and application designs related to operations; and to coordinate the promotional campaign so as to increase public awareness of the missions of CMHHK and spread the CM culture in the community.

Since commencing phased services in December 2025, the Chinese Medicine Hospital of Hong Kong (CMHHK) has been serving the community as a flagship institution leading Chinese medicine (CM) development. Controlled by the Health Bureau and operated under a public-private partnership model, CMHHK is managed by Hong Kong Baptist University through its incorporated operator, the HKBU Chinese Medicine Hospital Company Limited. We are dedicated to five key missions: clinical services, education and training, research, multi-stakeholder collaboration, and creating health value.

CMHHK offers comprehensive CM care through inpatient, day-patient, outpatient, and community-based programmes, with 65% of services government-subsidised to ensure accessible healthcare. As a pioneer in integrated Chinese-western medicine, CMHHK operates three clinical service models tailored to diverse patient needs. Currently in our first year, we focus on outpatient and day inpatient services, with full inpatient services and a 20-bed clinical trial centre to be progressively launched within five years. We initially offer 12 CM specialty services—including post-stroke rehabilitation and cancer care—with remaining services to follow by 2030.

As the teaching hospital for three local universities, CMHHK collaborates closely with academic partners on clinical standards, training, and research. We have also established strategic partnerships with Chinese Mainland hospitals, facilitating talent exchange and research networking. Through international collaborations with institutions in Germany and Australia, we aim to position Hong Kong as a global bridge for CM advancement.

Senior Chinese Medicine Dispenser (高級中藥配藥員) (26132)

Responsibilities:
Oversee daily dispensing workflows, build shift rosters, task allocations, and supervise frontline staff performance and discipline;

Perform secondary checks on high-risk prescriptions, ensure dual verification for controlled herbs, and conduct spot checks on decoctions and labeling;

Monitor automated decoction and packaging equipment, manage HIS/PMS data sync, and handle routine maintenance, inspections, and fault logging;

Supervise storage conditions, expiry tracking, and stocktaking for Chinese herbal medicines, while maintaining environmental hygiene and residue disposal;

Conduct on-the-job training, technical assessments, and emergency drills to enforce standard operating procedures and improve accuracy;

Ensure strict adherence to the Chinese Medicine Ordinance and safety codes while maintaining accurate logs for audits and full traceability;

Coordinate with practitioners regarding prescription changes, handle operational emergencies or herb shortages, and provide patient guidance;

Shift work on public holidays and weekends.

Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree or certificate/diploma course in CM pharmacy/ dispensing or related disciplines;

An advanced level certificate/diploma in CM pharmacy/dispensing or related disciplines;

10 years or more experience as a CM technician/ dispenser;

Experience in CM dispensing, processing and operation of CM pharmacy;

Experience in CM pharmacy design and management is highly preferable;

Show strong leadership in leading the CM pharmacy team;

Possess innovative ideas and experience in smart CM pharmacy management;

Possess professional knowledge in Chinese Materia Medica identification and quality control;

Meticulousness, excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills, and a strong sense of responsibility;

Self-motivation with the ability to work independently as well as with a team;

An excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua); and

Proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), SPSS and Chinese word processing.

Work location: The Chinese Medicine Hospital of Hong Kong in Tseung Kwan O.
